Anand Ranganathan’s academic journey began with a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi. He furthered his studies at Cambridge, UK, earning his BA (Tripos), MA, and PhD through a Nehru Centenary Scholarship. Following a post-doctoral stint at Cambridge, he returned to India, contributing 16 years as a Staff Research Scientist at the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in Delhi. In 2015, he joined Jawaharlal Nehru University’s Special Centre for Molecular Medicine, becoming a Professor in 2019. Focused on Directed Evolution and Pathogenesis, his lab excels in Tuberculosis and Malaria research, with notable contributions published in renowned journals.
Beyond the scientific realm, Anand Ranganathan is a distinguished author, columnist, and television commentator. He has authored four novels, including “The Land of the Wilted Rose,” “For Love and Honour,” “The Rat Eater,” and “Soufflé.” His upcoming book, co-authored, explores India’s forgotten scientists and is set to be released by Penguin in 2023.
